You Lie All The Time - beabadoobee

Loveworm by Filipino-English singer Beatrice Kristi Laus (Better known as ‘beabadoobee’) may be one of the best indie albums of the past decade - possibly even ever. She takes us on an adventure about heartbreak and its many emotions that come as a side dish. “You Lie All The Time” is an extremely notable song on this nine-track album.

Released in 2019, Bea starts off with a scratchy guitar that quickly becomes clearer, outlining the rest of the song. With a catchy rhythm and the amazing beat, this song is impossible to dislike. At around 0:30, Bea starts the first verse. With her unique way of writing heartbreak like no other artist has before, she creates a vulnerable vibe, using her lyrics and changing the emotions in her voice. She sings about how her partner seems to “lie all the time”, but she “can’t complain”, as she’s “just afraid of losing you”. After the first verse comes the catchy chorus, where Bea sings, “So tell me it’s okay / That everything is great / ‘Cause I just hate the fact / That everytime we do / You look the other way”. Her voice switches from the fast paced vulnerable feel, to a highly emotional, soft and slow flow. The second verse takes on a more specific and relatable feel, where Bea sings “You say It’s alright / Yeah you do / But it’s fine ? ‘Cause you hate to see me cry”. The second chorus then turns into a bridge with a very similar vibe to the chorus, but Bea shakes up the game again and switches the feel of the song from vulnerability - to acceptance. The song slowly comes to an end, and you’ll be left at the end of your seat, longing for more of this sound.
